The result is a dynamic, time-efficient, and information-rich online course focused on what new coaches need to know most.

This third edition of the course is a completely revised and refreshed presentation, offering an engaging learning experience and the most up-to-date coaching methods and first-aid protocols. The course features the following:

  • Coach development activities fostering better understanding and effective applications of the material

After working through all the units, you will take the 50-question online certification test.

Sport First Aid, Sixth Edition Online Course

Sport First Aid specifically addresses conditions coaches encounter on the playing field. It provides coaches with clear guidelines on what’s expected of them as first responders, as well as action steps for the care and prevention of more than 100 athletic injuries and illnesses.

The course is based on Sport First Aid, Sixth Edition, and covers protocols for conducting emergency action steps and providing life support; performing a physical assessment; administering first aid for bleeding, tissue damage, and unstable injuries; moving an injured athlete; and returning athletes to play.

The updated sixth edition reflects the latest guidelines for administering CPR and treating concussion, dehydration, and heat illness based on guidance from leading health organizations. The course includes videos demonstrating immediate action steps for the most common first aid situations; practical at-a-glance flowcharts depicting “if this, do this” response procedures; interactive activities and quizzes; and sample forms, checklists, assessments, and safety plans.

After completing the course units, you’ll take the 50-question Sport First Aid test online.

IHSA State Component for Coaches

The IHSA-specific component provides information on policies, procedures, rules, and reporting requirements governing interscholastic sports in Illinois. This course concludes with a test on IHSA bylaws.

Upon successfully passing each course test in this package, you will be entered into the National Coaches Registry, an online listing of coaches who’ve completed Human Kinetics Coach Education courses. Sport administrators have access to the registry, allowing them to track coaches’ course completion.
