Coaching Orientation, Second Edition Online Course
Gleaning material from the Coaching Principles, Sport First Aid, and Coaching [Sport] Technical and Tactical Skills online courses and accompanying texts, Coaching Orientation, Second Edition Online Course, provides up-and-coming coaches with the essentials to step onto the field for the first time. It features interactive exercises, engaging graphics, poignant video vignettes, and a quick pace to form a course that is informative, eye-opening, and enjoyable.

This course will teach you how to develop your personal coaching philosophy and coaching objectives, recognize your role in helping your players develop good character, and evaluate and improve your communication skills. You’ll also learn how to build team chemistry, effectively teach and practice technical and tactical skills, and create instructional plans for the season and for individual practices.

After completing the course units, you’ll take the 50-question Coaching Orientation test online.

Sport First Aid, Fifth Edition Online Course
Sport First Aid specifically addresses conditions coaches encounter on the playing field. It provides coaches with clear guidelines on what’s expected of them as first responders, as well as action steps for the care and prevention of more than 110 athletic injuries and illnesses.

The course is based on Sport First Aid, Fifth Edition, and covers protocols for conducting emergency action steps and providing life support; conducting a physical assessment; administering first aid for bleeding, tissue damage, and unstable injuries; moving an injured athlete; and returning athletes to play.

The fifth edition also provides guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the Heimlich maneuver, and automated external defibrillators (AED). It offers information on treating concussions and heat-related illnesses as well as preventing and recognizing methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus infections (MRSA). Strategies for greatly reducing athletes’ risk of injury or illness are also featured.

After completing the course units, you’ll take the 75-question Sport First Aid test online.

IHSA State Component for Coaches
The IHSA-specific component provides information on policies, procedures, rules, and reporting requirements governing interscholastic sports in Illinois. This course concludes with a test on IHSA bylaws.

Upon successfully passing each course test in this package, you will be entered in the National Coaches Registry, an online listing of coaches who’ve completed Human Kinetics Coach Education courses. Sport administrators have access to the registry, allowing them to track coaches’ course completion.
