In Catholic Coaching Basketball Essentials Online Course, you’ll learn a faith-based approach for coaching youth basketball and providing the best possible experience for your athletes. This course focuses on how to teach the offensive and defensive skills and tactics of basketball, and it includes a handy Coaches’ Clipboard utility with forms, documents, and detailed plans for successful practice sessions and game-day coaching.

Course units are as follows:

Tactics and skills instruction, including teaching methods, correcting errors, and shaping skills
Offensive tactics, including creating passing lanes, setting screens, running the transition game, and executing the give-and-go and pick-and-roll
Defensive tactics, including defending against screens, cutting off passing lanes, and helping out
Individual skills, including footwork, dribbling, passing and catching, shooting, rebounding, and playing defense

After completing the course units, you’ll take the test online. Upon successfully passing the test, you will be entered in the National Coaches Registry, an online listing of coaches who’ve completed Human Kinetics Coach Education courses. Sport administrators have access to the registry, allowing them to track coaches' course completion.

Audience

Sport coaches of athletes ages 6 to 13 participating in a recreational, noncompetitive setting. Completion of Catholic Coaching Essentials Online Course is a recommended prerequisite to this course.

The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) has partnered with Human Kinetics Coach Education to provide online training and certification for their coaches. The customized courses incorporate faith-based content developed by NFCYM and carry the endorsement of NFCYM.
