IHSA Coaching Orientation, Third Edition Online Course, provides coaches the knowledge base to coach their teams competently and confidently. Containing the essential content from Successful Coaching, Fifth Edition, and Sport First Aid, Sixth Edition, the course teaches coaches not only how to meet their responsibilities but also how to provide positive experiences to their athletes and promote their development. The result is a dynamic, time-efficient, and information-rich online course focused on what new coaches need to know most.
This third edition of the course is a completely revised and refreshed presentation, offering an engaging learning experience and the most up-to-date coaching methods and first-aid protocols. The course features the following:
- Coaching scenarios requiring understanding of the text excerpts as you apply the content to common practice and game situations
- Video segments providing further insight into key subjects to reinforce key coaching principles and to encourage best practices
- Coach development activities fostering better understanding and effective applications of the material
- Short end-of-unit quizzes testing to confirm comprehension of content
After completing the course units, you’ll take the 50-question Coaching Orientation test online. Upon successfully passing the test, you will be entered into the National Coaches Registry, an online listing of coaches who’ve completed Human Kinetics Coach Education courses. Sport administrators have access to the registry, allowing them to track coaches’ course completion.
A supplemental course component is included with IHSA Coaching Orientation covering IHSA bylaws, policies, and procedures. Coaches are tested on this content separately as part of the IHSA’s certification requirements.
