Human Kinetics Coach Education is pleased to work with CCC in offering Coaching Principles online.

The course has two elements that need to be completed and passed:

  1. CIF state component: Students need to complete this course containing information specific to the rules, regulations, and policies of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Completion of this course is required by the CIF to be certified to coach high school sports in California. The CIF component counts as 10 percent of the grade for the Fundamentals of Coaching class. The CIF component is a self-paced course and test. Please see the course syllabus for the date by which the CIF test must be completed.

  2. Coaching Principles: You will also need to complete the Coaching Principles online course and test which will count for up to 10 percent of your grade in the Fundamentals of Coaching class. Please see the course syllabus for the date by which the Coaching Principles test must be completed. If you do not pass the test, you will be given a second opportunity to complete the test (a $10 retest fee applies).

All students must also be registered in the Fundamentals of Coaching class provided by CCC and taught by Nikki Ferguson. This component will also be taught as an online class on Canvas. This class will serve as a foundation and an introduction to a CCC Coaching Certificate for students interested in coaching athletics as a profession. Thus, students who are not registered at CCC must complete the enrollment process to become CCC students and sign up for the Fundamentals of Coaching class. Please see the course syllabus for requirements to complete this three-unit class. Please contact Nikki Ferguson by phone or email if you are not presently a CCC student and you would like to pursue a career in coaching by completing the 16-unit Coaching certificate.

Thus, students using this portal must understand that to pass this class, both of the above components (CIF state component and Coaching Principles) must be completed.

To register for Coaching Principles, just click on the online course below. The Coaching Principles course package includes the CIF component, so you won't be charged separately for the CIF component.

After successful completion of Coaching Principles and the CIF component, students will have the ability to print certificates of course completion directly from the website.

Optional: The California Department of Education also requires coaches to receive first aid training as part of its coaching education requirements. The Sport First Aid online course meets this requirement.Note that Sport First Aid is not a requirement of the Fundamentals of Coaching course offered through Contra Costa College by Nikki Ferguson, so purchase of Sport First Aid is optional.
